  • Meet Peter Askey, President of Ricochet Manufacturing Company, Inc.
on January 31, 2025

Peter Askey exemplifies leadership through his steadfast commitment to both the Philadelphia community and first responders.

Since assuming the role of president in 2007, Peter has pursued a clear mission: to generate employment opportunities and maintain PPE manufacturing in Philadelphia. His strategic decision to acquire and expand Ricochet was motivated by a desire to bolster the local economy and ensure that first responders have access to superior protective equipment. A key initiative under his leadership has been the development of Ricochet’s Maximum Mobility structural gear design. In this process, Peter engaged with firefighters nationwide to gather insights on their preferences and concerns regarding existing gear. Each iteration of the design incorporated this feedback, culminating in the final Maximum Mobility product. Under his guidance, Ricochet has flourished, providing critical equipment to firefighters, emergency medical services (EMS) professionals, and military personnel.  Peter has been critical in developing long-term relationships with customers such as the Fire Department of New York (FDNY), the Honolulu Fire Department, and the United States Air Force, all of which have been loyal clients for many years.

Peter's professional background encompasses extensive experience in financial and operational management prior to his engagement in the public safety sector. His expertise in managing middle-market acquisitions and his strategic mindset have been vital to the company's growth and innovation. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Princeton University, where he was also a member of the football team

In his capacity as president of the Fire and Emergency Manufacturers and Service Association (FEMSA), Peter is tasked with strategic planning and advancing the organization’s objectives. He joined FEMSA to enhance the public safety industry and ensure that Ricochet remains aligned with emerging needs and technological advancements. His leadership within the organization underscores his dedication to the industry's progress. As a board member and current president, he engages actively in various committees, ensuring that the concerns of first responders are prioritized.

Peter's commitment to his customers is resolute. He recognizes the essential role first responders play in safeguarding communities and is dedicated to providing them with the highest quality protective gear. His initiatives to innovate product offerings and refine manufacturing processes reflect his dedication to excellence. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ricochet produced masks and gowns for fire departments, hospitals, and other manufacturers, operating with minimal profit margins and donating any earnings to the National Fallen Firefighters Association. The commitment to our first responders—our nation's frontline defenders—drives Peter's efforts daily.

Throughout his tenure at Ricochet, Peter has cultivated a culture of quality and reliability. He collaborates closely with his team to ensure that each product meets rigorous standards and values customer feedback and trust. His leadership has not only propelled the company toward significant growth but also strengthened the relationship between Ricochet and the first responders who depend on their products.

Peter Askey stands as a champion for first responders and a pivotal figure in the protective clothing industry. His unwavering commitment to advancing the industry and prioritizing customer needs has been instrumental in Ricochet’s success.
